Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to our new website. The purpose of nurturingtraining.com is to be a resource to you and your staff in learning how to utilize the assessments and programs published by Family Development Resources, a leader in the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect.

The Nurturing Program Training Video shows a two day training on the Nurturing Program that Dr. Bavolek conducted in Cincinnati, Oh. in the fall of 2007.  The training will assist viewers in understanding the development, philosophy and key principles of the Nurturing Parenting Programs.

An on-line video training can never take the place of attending a live training. This video is not meant to supplant your involvement in one of our Nurturing Parenting trainings, rather to supplement your training experience. There is a lot that goes on in our trainings and colleagues have written us suggesting that the trainings be extended. As we all know, getting extended time away from work to attend trainings is getting more and more difficult as budgets decrease and caseloads increase.

So, your colleagues at Family Development Resources are providing you with an opportunity to expand your awareness increase your knowledge and renew your commitment to nurturing as a philosophy and a program.

There are several ways we hope this video can be of value to you.

1. After attending one of our Nurturing Program Facilitator trainings, review the information on the video to reinforce your knowledge of the philosophy of the Nurturing Parenting.

2. Watch the video before the training and come prepared to discuss the concepts presented. Be a step ahead of the others.

3. Use the video as a supplement in training new staff at your agency, or staff who couldn’t attend the training.

4. Use parts of the video to show parents during one of your sessions. Match the lesson you’re teaching with the relevant clip from the video. It also provides the parents with a “visual” of the author. That’s always fun.

5. To assist the dedicated Home Visitors in the Army and Navy’s New Parent Support Programs implementing the Nurturing Parenting Programs in military installations worldwide.

Other video's will be developed to assist training staff on using the Adult-Adolescent Parenting Inventory (AAPI-2), the Nurturing Skills Competency Scale (NSCS), the Family Nurturing Plan and other resources we offer.

Tune in every now and then to see what new and exciting information we are presenting to assist you in providing the best assessments and parenting programs to families in their quest to improve their nurturing parenting skills.

We welcome your comments and suggestions. E-mail us at fdr@nurturingparenting.com.

Sincerely,

Stephen J. Bavolek, Ph.D.
Principal Author of the Nurturing Parenting Programs and
